All e‑mobility battery packs share the same essential requirement: safety. For this reason, we joined the Development of Smart Nanomaterials & Cooling System for Safer E‑Bike Batteries project under the EUREKA Eurostars program. Led by the company Birikim Pilleri, the CoolBatt project aims to create a hybrid thermal system that helps prevent thermal runaway and improves safety, durability and performance of lithium‑ion batteries.
The approach relies on two key innovations:
Encapsulated PCM absorb excess heat and stabilize the temperature of the battery pack. The encapsulation prevents leaks and supports better thermal conduction, which leads to more uniform heat distribution.
The system also integrates the ultra‑compact, pump‑free MCHP technology from Calyos. This technology transfers heat efficiently without any additional energy consumption.
The combination of these two technologies aims to:
Moving to 100% passive, waterless cooling helps the e-Mobility sector to achieve higher performance, reduce failure points and simplify maintenance and integration.
